ABOUT

My Student Pages

Playing the guitar is serious fun, but it does take serious work.
This is where even the most well-meaning folks can falter, because the fact that dedication and discipline are important doesn't keep them from feeling like four-letter words. I don't believe it has to be this way, nor do I believe that my job as your teacher stops when your lessons end.

That’s where the student pages come in.
I record every regular lesson I teach and then post that video – along with notes, reminders, and more – to private, password-protected student pages right here on this this website. Every one of my regular student get one. Here’s how they work:

Login Portal

You’ll find the student pages link right here. Clicking your time slot will take you to your password page.

Password Page

This is how you’ll log in to your student page.

Schedule Section

You’ll find your name and time slot at the top of your page and your schedule just below, It’s clearly-marked and easy to read.

Lesson Section

Below that, you’ll find your lessons. They’ll be posted in chronological order, with the most recent lesson at the top. The posts will always include a title and the lesson recording. They may also include lesson notes, digital whiteboard screencaps, and homework notes.

My Setup

Lighting
I use three Elgato Key Light Air LED panels with an Elgato Stream Deck controller to supplement and balance out the room’s pre-existing natural and artificial lighting.

Audio
Outside the box, I use a Deity S-Mic 2S shotgun mic for voice and acoustic guitars and a Shure SM57 on a Milkman 5W Half Pint for electric guitars. The mics run to a Universal Audio Apollo Twin audio interface via Mogami Gold cables with Neutrik XX and RX connectors. Inside the box, I use UA’s Console for initial signal processing and Apple’s Garageband to create a submix of guitars and vocals. I send that to Rogue Amoeba’s Loopback, which lets me mix in additional audio sources like Apple Music and YouTube.

Video
I use a Sony a6100 DSLR fitted with a Sigma 16mm f/1.4 lens. I send signal out through an Elgato Cam Link 4K capture card into a maxed-out 2022 M1 Max Mac Studio.

Internet
I send all of that to you via Skype. My computer is directly connected to my router with CAT7 cabling. My router is directly connected to my fiber-optic modem via CAT7 cabling. My connection speed is parallel gigabit (1,000gb up/down). My ISP is Sonic.

My Pledge

I will always be prepared for your lesson, and I will always do my utmost to ensure that your experience is worthwhile, rewarding, engaging, and fun.
